LocationGarden Oaks is nestled under the large old oaks of the Garden Oaks neighborhood located just outside the North 610 Loop between Ella and Shepherd. See map. DemographicsGarden Oaks is uniquely diversified community composed of people with different socio- economic and educational backgrounds. The school population is 8.2% African-American, 69.4% Hispanic, 20.6% White, and 1.6% Asian. Of this total population, 17.4% or 108 students are in the Montessori program. The student body of 550 children is distributed among 30 teachers. Special ProgramsStudents may participate in one or more of the following special programs.
The Garden Oaks Montessori MissionGarden Oaks Elementary is home to a public Montessori program for children ages 3-10. In its 11th year on this Garden Oaks Elementary School Campus, Montessori classes integrate needed academic, social and emotional skills. This program is partially funded by the Houston Independent School District with additional funding raised through Friends of Montessori (FOM). This public elementary school Montessori program is designed to give children of all learning and language abilities the opportunity to be educated and socialized in an environment with a methodology and philosophy that reflects the world these children will soon lead. Because we are a public school, we maintain that it be available to all ethnic and socio economic levels.
